Karatu Orphanage

Shalom Orphanage in Karatu

The Shalom Orphanage is located in the village of Karatu, which is located between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Started in 2004, there are currently 40 children living in the orphanage, and they currently range in age between 1 and 13 years old. There is a staff of 12 people, including teachers, cooks, cleaning help, and gardeners, who take care of and educate the children.

What is Needed

Money

Cash donations are the main need for the orphanage. Monthly expenses for the care of the children, food, salaries for the staff, and school expenses are $3000/month. One-time donations and monthly child sponsorship are two options for donating.

Goods

The children can use clothing, shoes, books, toys, and school supplies. Many visitors to Karatu will bring donations of these needed items.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to help care for the children, clean and cook, education, help with construction projects, garden, provide medical and dental care, and just to give the staff a much needed rest.
