Free A Child: Facts

Facts about sex-trafficking

  • Every year more than 1,000,000 children are forced into the multibillion dollar sex trade.
  • The sex trade is the second most lucrative criminal enterprise after drugs.
  • The average age range of trafficked children is 10-14 years old.
  • 60% to 70% of children forced into the sex trade each year become infected with HIV/AIDS.
  • Sex trafficking is a global problem that touches your local community.

Since 1998, Free A Child has changed the lives of hundreds of girls and women living in areas where sex-trafficking is rampant. Along with our partner, General Welfare Pratisthan in Nepal, we have involved these at-risk individuals in skills training and income-generating projects through The Butterfly Project, keeping them out of the hands of traffickers and giving them the freedom to determine their own lives.

The Butterfly Project has touched thousands through compelling street dramas and plays that deliver an Anti-Trafficking message. Our purpose is to increase the awareness of a tremendous problem that many people are unfamiliar with.
